Because you are afraid of the consequences?

Or because you believe it is best for society?

for me, it's probably the first one, I respect the laws, but if I could get away with going naked to the mall, I would.

Mainly because my life is hard enough without having to deal with tickets, jail terms and the like.
I'm middle class and have to work hard for a living to support the poor and lazy rich bastards.

depends on the situation.

i stop at the stop sign at an empty intersection because i'm afraid of getting a ticket if i don't. i do my taxes correctly because it's for the good of society.

not killing people is kind of a grey area.

most of the real ones i obey for reason number 2. like, not killing people, or not stealing.

but a lot of them are just jackassery

I do what I feel is right, morally and ethically. I obey the law for the greater good of society. The few areas where I don't (speeding and beastiality) I consider exceptions to this rule.
