I remember making a igloo out of sugar when i was a kid. Coat a bowl with an inch or so of sugar on all sides, and blowtorch the hell out of it for 20 minutes.

It was hard as rock, it probably still exists somewhere at my parents house, you would have no idea it was sugar and not quartz or something.
