Who sucks at making patch cables? (contest inside)

I DO!!!!

For every 6-7 RJ45 cables I make I have to redo atleast one of them. I really suck at them. I have decent crimps, etc... I think I just have bad eyes and get the colours mixed up when it's faint.

100 marklar to the first person who can tell me what the thread that goes through cat 5 cable is for....

Inside cat5 cable there is a thread/string that runs inside with all the wires. What function does that string serve?

That kinda makes sense...when running wire...tie something to the string instead of the wires. It takes the stress off the wire and avoids crimping while still retaining a firm attachment to the cat5.

that's what I use it for. But I was just thinking it had a more technical use :p

Yea...It's like having 2 buttons next to each other.
One is labeled "On".
The other is 10 times bigger and has "Warning" written on it but nothing else.

What do you do?
 
cause the tension strength of the polymer string is much much higher than that of the pvc/ppe jacketing or the copper of the wire. it allows you to pull the cable through tighter situations than you'd be able to if it weren't there.
