So I stumbled upon this article just now, and in the grip of my flu-induced stupor I couldn't help but wonder what the hell is wrong with people?

It's disgusting. I don't get why people are so obsessed with fucking and porn and with being nothing more than glorified monkeys.

Do you have an opinion on this either way? Do you think that sexual obsessions and pervasive porn are detrimental to societies? Are you as tired as me of seeing sex everywhere you go? It's like we just invented it for crying out loud. Enough already. Why can't people go 15 minutes without having to see porn or think about screwing? I look at a place like Tokyo, where they have GOT to have the most fucked up depravity on the face of the earth, and I rue the day that I live in such a society. It's just...abhorrent. And I'm not puritanical, I'm just tired of sex being everywhere.

Being sick pisses me off. :fly:

I guess the arguement here is that this isn't really hurting you at all. You don't have to go to these clubs. You don't have to think about these clubs. You don't even live in Canada, do you? A lot of people really like to think about sex and talk about sex and have sex. I wonder why sex is such a taboo topic. Everyone, or nearly so, has sex, so why is it any different from any other biological function? Do you believe that going out to dinner with friends or even acquaintances disgusting? If not, why is making sex into something everyday and commonplace so abohorrent to you?

Because there should be such things as "private subjects". Sex is fine. And really, really old. We've been doing it for millions of years. Yay us.

I don't have a problem with it. But I have a problem with everyone talking about it all the time, seeing it on billboards or on t.v. or in magazines or on PSPs and cell phones or every damn place I go. Keep it in the home or bedroom where it belongs. Taboo? No, just keep it to your damn self. You take it in the ass? Good for you. You like to screw 10 guys at once? Who gives a shit? Why do I have to hear about it? Nothing is sacred anymore, and no one understands the concept of boundaries.

I know what sex is. You know what sex is. Why can't it be private? Obviously it does affect me because I see the shit everywhere I go. I read about it, I shield my kid from it. Would you like to live in a place where you pass 15 porn shops or brothels on the way to drop your kid off, or hear people obsessing about new and even more depraved ways to get off? I sure as shit don't. And i don't want to hear my son talk about fucking like every other loser on earth. Morality and privacy are two endangered elements of our society.

And if you actually equate sex to dinner with friends or casual conversation, well that's the perfect illustration of what is wrong with society.

If people were fucking on the job you'd think it was unprofessional... Same thing with it being everywhere. You dont make potty jokes constantly, sure everyone poops, but that doesnt mean it's something you want to see or hear about repeatedly. Your comparision is way off the mark.

Three things you dont joke, or talk about, politics, religion, and sex. Good rules, learn them, love them.

Sex is not a taboo subject any longer. That's really the problem, it's everywhere and it is used to sell everyhting from shoes to shampoo. There are some things that should remain private and beautiful. But we have fallen as a society down a slope of desensitization.
 
the over abundance is an obvious backlash to the oppression it has long experienced in western society...sex isn't dirty nor should it be treated as such...none of us would be here otherwise...I agree there is a time and a place for everything but it's totally not up to you to decide...that's how we end up with fucked up groups like the "moral majority"

edit: and shielding your kid from it will give him issues too...there is a healthy way to present it...shielding is not it

While I agree that it is a bit overly pervasive in our culture, I think it would be more easily argued that it is too repressed. Sex is like a giant secret that everyone is in on. Of course it will be talked about.

What do you propose be done about it, though? Hide it and pretend like it never happens?

First, I didn't say this is how I felt at all personally. I just presented the other side. Morality is a tough issue. Your morals may not be mine. If it is okay for people to be out in the street preaching their Christian sex is bad type morals, then it aught to be okay for people who like porn and butt sex to be out in the street preaching their morals too. That's what a free society is all about.
 
Funny, I use to sound like this a few years ago....but then I grew out of it I guess. Unfortunatly in our society sex does sell, but I've never cared much for the idea of censorship. So I just don't support companies that push sex to sell their products (except Vickies :hs: ). That's why I don't shop at Abercloneme. Sending people trashy catalogs (that they request) is one thing, but I can't believe they put this kinda crap up on the side of bulidings for everyone (and every child) to see:

that's hardly a new marketing ploy...calvin klone has been doing that for close to 20 years now :)

Yeah I don't buy Calvin's crap either. If you have to put up a 4+ story billboard of a half naked guy spread eagle to sell your crap, then you're stuff must be shit to start with. Gimmicks are lame and annoying. Let the products sell themselves instead of selling sex.
