Advice Update your resume @nukes

Not to be flippant, but I'd sort of expect 'em to. I mean, who else would? Society of Boat Engineers?
I need to look em up and wander through it.

for not being flippant, that was pretty flippant.

to already have standards for something that doesnt strictly exists is forward-looking. Forward-looking is good.

What will people do once the gig economy is entirely roboticized?

(after all, people "need to work" according to @nukes and @Amstel)
First, there's no 'entirely.'

Second, Somehow, magically, we all don't have horses & buggies and yet still bust our asses.

I've said it before, the washing machine was pitched as saving women hours of work. All it did was increase overall productivity.

You spend very limited amount of time growing & harvesting your food yet still work an 8hr day.

The *need to work* keeps us thinking, contributing, having current value. A lot of people die shortly after retirement because they suddenly have nothing to do. This is also why a lot of retirees pick up part time work, or open a biz.

Enough of dealing with the public wears down my people-skills.

But yeah, these guys get paid to do this.

Still fairly flippant, but I had a long day and I probably need a nap.

Wait, isn't the USA full of lazy unemployed people?

This isn't humans adapting to changing industry, this is industry moving to non-human workers on a huge scale. Automation will actually terk yer jerbs.

A lot of people die shortly after retirement because as a culture we've deemed working until death acceptable. Do people that think work is life simply not enjoy things? Can we really not agree that being free to pursue your own interests, and having the means to do so, and contribute or think about what they wish rather than only what is profitable?

There's far more to living than profit.

The majority of the office worker's life is filled with them fucking around on the internet while they wait for work to do.

I never said people have a need to "work".
I said we have a need to feel productive.
That could mean writing a song, making a sale, digging a ditch, filming a porn scene.
I believe the human condition needs to have life broken up into a series of tasks, some meaningful, some meaningless.
I also think if robots are doing 98℅ of the tasks, many humans will become clinically depressed due to lack of a sense of duty, accomplishment, and direction.

These days I'd rather feel fairly compensated. But you know how it is, enough is never enough.

Hey, Nukes. I just read that the software used to drive these cars uses landmarks and things like trees when navigating.
Trees, Nukes .... Trees.
Sharpen your axe, buddy, I got a plan.
We'll fix those fuckers.

Im also having a bitch of a time deciding which Office Hottie to mount tonight. Im not going to the lake this weekend so I figure i should do something productive, but golly I can't make a decision with any conviction to save my life.
