It's such a nice feeling to pay something off. Congrats by the way. My only bit of advice would be to use that $240/month to service any car loan or other debt you might have and get it paid off as well.

Debt sucks...house debt, not so much as I'm gonna be paying for a place to live anyway.

The only recent additional debt I have accrued lately, that I regret, were student loans the wife took out for her masters. I'm not even sure of the amount right now, probably $10k or so. What has me upset is that we could have paid for the program w/ cash, but the wife didn't want to scrimp for a while.

Upside is, I'll get it paid off in a year to 18 months plus I learned a valuable lesson, my wife would not make a good financial planner.

I have never owned a credit card until my company gave me one for travelling expenses for work. I can see how people could get easily roped into a mess they can't get out of with them.
i rarely carry cash around and pretty much pay for everything with my credit card - I do this for two reasons, first, I work in the ghetto and if I get jacked I can show the thug I have no cash and he can get pissed and shoot me in the face. the second reason is that as long as I pay my bill off every month I'll maintain my current 750ish credit score

edit: get your own credit card, use it a little and pay it off so you can establish some credit and when you do need a loan for something like a car or house you won't get a shitty rate

Me too, but I do it because I like to track where my spending is going and make up pretty graphs in Quicken.

That was a long way to go for you just to brag about your credit score.

Congrats!

Today is the day that the crew we hired to run some underground fiber optic lines for us dug into some unmarked gas lines and closed down the few blocks around here for a few hours. Dumbass gas company said opps he missed marking some lines. I'm just glad that no one on the crew was smoking when they hit it.

I shall purchase your debt for $0.10 on the dollar and then break your legs for owing me money. Bwahahaha.

Congrats!

I know people in their 30's who are still paying off the debt they racked up with the credit card they got in college
Raises hand.

Living beyond my means with an excellent credit score in my early 20's brought me almost to bankruptcy. At my all time worst I was carrying CC debt to the sum of $26k, I have been paying almost $1k per month for the last 2 years to knock that down. I'm under $10k right now, and if everything works out according to plan I'll be debt free next spring.

Grats dharma, it's a great feeling to not have something like that hanging over your head. I'm quite looking forward to it myself.
