that flower shape is rather distinctive, most grasses dont have that.

Sedges are sharp though for lack of a better word, like the leaves can actually cut you if you pull them outta your hand fast enough. The leaves you posted looked pretty fine
 
Any of you guys recognize this grass? I'd like to get more seeds for my yard. Its the only stuff that seems to like the yard but it expands too slow for me to wait it out
We get that grass in wet areas here - seems like that seed knot would suck to walk on. Don't think it's a cultivated thing. Then again, maybe someone grows it for land reclamation or such. Seems you'd have to wait it out by letting it get long enough to really seed then mow and leave on the ground, possibly rake around so as it dries the seed gets distributed.
Does look like a sedge - the green kylinga or some other nutsedge.
