cut this chunk of prickly pear off one that was growing at a campsite we stayed at in fredericksberg back in november
wasnt sure it would survive the winter, but apparently it did
once it really gets going Ill have to find a place to put it ...

Native one from out there should handle your winters fine.
Looks like the kind that make the pretty yellow or pink flowers though I'm no botanist.

We had some from her folks place in South TX that grew tall and morphed into a trunk of sorts at the bottom. Had the little fuzzy, invisible hairs on them that gave you something like fiberglass insulation itch x10 instead of the long thorns you can see.
Planted them out close to the sidewalk to keep the z0mbies at bay, lol.
Freak freeze that dipped down into the teens and stayed below 32 for like 3 days eventually took em out.
