My amusement levels bottomed out yesterday when I got home to discover there was no booze in the house.

I spent the evening sober.

How did you run out though? I'm guessing you don't have a sekrat emergency whisky stash?

I'd be a bit surprised. Early spelling gives a hint at how we pronounced words and certainly Middle English had very little in common with American pronunciation. The early settlers would have had what we'd consider broad country accents I would think, sort of Devon or East Anglian.
