The first photo is the initial scan with spysweeper. Spybot caught a good 500 things (alot for spybot on any machine) and adaware caught about 1500 things. I then ran MS's Adware scanner which found a few critical processes that wouldn't be removed by the other 3 programs.

Mind you, it found all this stuff *after* an hour of emptying temp files, cache, cookies and booting into safemode/dos mode deleting folders and so on. So these files were essentially what was left in \WINNT\System32 as all the files under \Program Files were deleted beforehand. Most processes were also stopped by booting into safemode and cleaning the registry.... and disabling 3rd party ext. in IE.

WHAT A MESS!

How the hell does a box get that bad?

Why not just do a fresh install at that point?
honestly, that was a test box of my own doing. it's only purpose was to get as much adware on it as i could possibly install. that took about 3 months to get right.

what to know what's scary? it had probably the easiest infection to clean of all the boxes i've done. most of our customers manage to not only get the most destructive adware on thier boxes, but they completely overshadowed the infection i did by a factor of 2. what's amazing is on some of those computers, IE will take a good 5 minutes to load ANYTHING and windows will crawl and they'll never think twice about it. they'll bring it in saying "it runs a tad bit slower than when we bought it" or they'll bring it in for other work, usually because it crashes alot.

idiots

edit: i apologize if some of this doesnt make sense. as ive been snowed in for the past couple days, ive been doing nothing but drinking....l and im half sloshed rgith now as it is. :)

 @ all that adware. That looks liek the daytime mainframe operator's PC at work. He's a super porn hunter and is always downloading and installing stuff. It's sad really. Most of our users across work tend to download all that crap too, however we saved ourselves a lot of headache by blocking most internet sites for everyone but a few select users (managers)

that makes me mad.... if he wants to use kazaa or shareaza to download porn during the day, that's perfectly fine. when he starts screwing up his work computer which could negatively affect his performace in a time of crisis, thats when his ass goes out the door. for a nerd to let his computer get that bad is sad.

The sad part is that he's not using any p2p software at all. He's picking it up just by going to the sites. I wouldn't consider him a computer geek either, more like computer stupid. He can set up a brand new PC or install an OS just fine, but he has no concept of maintenence. It'd be fine if he screwed his PC up and was able to correct the issues, however he is not. He can't understand why it's all screwed up like that.

 you should keep up with her adware.... and get a copy of microsofts adware program.... its actually pretty good and stays resident in the memory, stopping stuff from getting installed.

She'd probably find some excuse and just disable it

women......

well deliberately install lots of adware on her computer one day..... make it unusable.... then work on it for a week or so so she's without a computer for a long time.... that'll let it sink in

that or slowly lock everything down and come to you to fix it. I've had that happen, they either block everything in site or get fed up and allow everything anyways. you cant win.

women shouldn't be allowed to use the internet, anyway. not that there are any women on the intarweb :shifty:
