This one hospital wanted to do an RPLND on me

Basically cut me open from the bottom of the breastbone to the groin, take all of my intestines and such out, and remove a bunch of lymph nodes behind all that.

Then try and put it all back in right.

I've never met people more dedicated to their job than most doctors, perhaps paramedics moreso, but from what I hear, yours are alot different than ours.

Basically, you're in safe hands. Malpractice isn't common, especially not here.

Fuck, a lymph node dissection. That just screams all types of complicated and difficult. Why did they want to do that?

Because the doctor hadn't done one yet I'd wager, that happens sometimes.

My 2nd opinion doctor, and my wife and I agreed that surveillance was a better option.

Some hospitals DO do them regularly for TC, and if I needed one I'd go to one of those not that quack.

Call me a tinfoil hat wearing freak, but I no longer believe that the medical professions (drug companies included) are interested in curing things. They're incredibly interested in TREATING things, but not curing. You can't make money from a cured disease.

Another reason why malpractice lawsuits/insurance should be eliminated.

what about a case like chikken stated above? what if he had allowed some quack to do majorly invasive surgery when it wasn't necessary? at the very least, harsh monetary consequences are a great deterrent to doctors with a god complex in most instances

True

Does your insurance allow you to pick which hospital you want, which surgery etc? Here the consultant will suggest what you need and that's it, the hospital with the shortest waiting list is selected automatically, though some people can go to Germany for their treatment, this only happens if the waiting list is huge though.

Most insurances have a list of hospitals/doctors that will accept that insurance and you can go to anyone on that list. Sometimes you have to have a primary doctor, and if you need specialist care, the primary doctor has to refer you to one, but I'm sure you could get them to refer you to anyone on the list that you want. With most plans, if you want to go to a hospital/doctor not on the list, you can, you just get smaller benefits and have to pay more.

I know how you feel. Do they really want a cure for cancer etc. I can vouch for the medical workers here at least that yes, they do want a cure for cancers. The majority of specialists here are dedicated to their jobs. The average chance of developing cancer in the UK is 1 in 3, and I will most likely get it in the near future, but I'm optimistic that better treatments will be found. I believe that if research scientists were as dedicated to their jobs as oncologists and haematologists, then that day isn't too far off.
