Built a shop stand for the boy's lathe today. It's out of shit construction grade wood like all the other stands in the garage, but it's got an enclosed cabinet on the bottom for his tools, and he's happy that he'll be able to do it all in the garage now.

Routing the dado for the cabinet rear and sides in the leg.

Still need to order some antivibration pads with a through-hole so I can bolt the lathe down, but he's happy.

Then we spent about an hour cleaning.

Kids didn't play with their toys last Christmas. This year I bought them books and jewelry. Next year they're teens. Not sure what to get teens. At 13 all I was into was records, stoner clothes and drugs.
Vinyl would be cool. I'm considering putting together an old school stereo system with a decent turntable. Nothing with a tube amplifier because tubes have gotten so bloody expensive (if you can find them at all). The only tube amps I'd consider would take the typical guitar Amp tubes such as 12ax7/12au7 for the preamp and probably 6l6 or EL84 for the power Amp. But then I could shop vinyl. I dig records.

Have you considered asking them? That's how I figure out what to get them.

tbf as a pre-teen, teen, and also as an adult, I 100% did and do not have a good answer for "what do you want for Christmas" - sometimes there would be like, one "it" item, but in general the question just makes my brain 404 Want/Interest Not Found. a lot of times what I want is like Potter Stewart's take on hardcore pornography - I know it when I see it :lol:

This. My teens had very small lists and most we had to get real creative for.

almost everything I got this year from parents & sister-in-law were bug themed and it's all perfect and I love it all and yet when they asked earlier in the year what I might want my brain was like "I have never desired anything in my LIFE" and I was like "oh haha idk" and tbh I'd never have thought to ask for the specific things they got even though it's excellent

Exactly. Allison finally decided to wear her triple Hamilton medallion(s) I got her last year.
By the time she received the Hamilton merch last year, it was already "not cool".

One option is a ball trimmer. When kid 3 opened his the other two teens both commented they wanted one too. (Boys and girls, it’s not really a ball trimmer but meant for girls but tre said it works on balls).

I work hard at not having direct knowledge of if they have "sprouted" yet. Gabe is super self conscious and I respect that.

Drugs sounds good. Maybe a bottle of scotch to go with it.
