Have to admit: I paid $400 for a gallon of that paint, a gallon of clear, and a pair of DeVilbiss "startingline" HVLP guns, and that's less than I would have paid for a gallon of just the red base coat for the fuckin' Nissan.

Gallon has to be enough to do that little thing twice at least, which is what you should do, letting the kids do it first, then watching it sag down the side panels, then prepping it all over again, then watching them being scared of laying too much on the second time, then spending their allowance on more paint, and getting the porridge just right on round three.
Head mechanical engineer at my old employer has a 1600 that's done in a blue metallic, and it looks great on the car - this is the same sort of thing with a twist of purple and guaranteed it's gonna look good.
