Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

Honestly @fly , if it is just small up/down low spots you want to catch so your floor boards don't flex(or scoot if no glue) - just crawl around with a straight edge and look for low spots. Use a 10' drywall knife(trowel) or if the floor has wider waves a wallpaper trowel(about 24") work as a good trowel for the floor leveler. Or just use the board and wipe clean periodically. *Setting a small flashlight on floor on side of SE away from you will make low points apparent under edge. ;) It ain't rocket science.

Sounds like the first thing that needs to be done, is to get the carpet and tack strip up, and then determine the low point of the floor.

See how out of whack it is, or if it's just fine.

get yourself a long true-flat 50% or better the width of your room is ideal and swing it around to look for dips or humps. Humps suck. Dips are easily dealt with.

True-flat only has to be good to 1/8th or so realistically. PIcking through the shitty 2x4 pile at lowes may be sufficient. You can use their floor as a check
