im not. almost all my stuff can already talk zigbee or be converted to. And yeah, puts vs gets are separatedJust the standard advice: separate the status and control channels.
If you're building your own, start with ESP8266.
What a knob.from the guy whose house still has ceramic electrical insulators in the walls
Standardized, universally readable simultaneously from multiple sources. I dunno, I like standards. Why? I use MQTT as a last resort.
If HA is my standard, and it is, I'd prefer it all to report directly to HA. I don't really see any benefit into adding another layer, if I don't need to.Standardized, universally readable simultaneously from multiple sources. I dunno, I like standards.
What don't you like about it?
Oh, my mqtt broker is in ha. But I get you.If HA is my standard, and it is, I'd prefer it all to report directly to HA. I don't really see any benefit into adding another layer, if I don't need to.
So is mine. It probably isn't completely logical, but I'd rather use a device in native HA or with its specific HA integration if I had to. I hate the extra layer, but I still use it. For example, my vacuum needs it.Oh, my mqtt broker is in ha. But I get you.
That's pretty cool. Refresh me: this UI is displayed on your phone, and on some cheapo tablet you're running somewhere, right?I've been working on simplifying my HA UI a bit. Basically the opening screen is just buttons that go to each room. It seems to speed up load times by not having to get the status of every device before displaying (which is how I previously had it). Lovelace is pretty badass.
And then each of the rooms looks similar to this:
I haven't figured out a good/nice/easy way to do tablets yet, so it's setup for phone/desktop.That's pretty cool. Refresh me: this UI is displayed on your phone, and on some cheapo tablet you're running somewhere, right?
yeah, I took the previous one apart, but the screws in the base were clearly not meant to be re-used, and its failure mode was "no pressure on the O-ring between the halves, gonna leak errywhere, lol".ugh
We had a disposal blow a seal and totally flood under the sink and general floor area a year or so ago
and working under a sink for any reason is fuckin miserable
You should read the directions.Replaced the sink disposal after my mother killed it with broken glass the other day, but didn't realize you have to drill out the nipple for the dishwasher drain.
Found out that particular nugget after ending up with a kitchen floor full of water from the dishwasher.
