I concur. It was ok but it wasn't this mindblowing life altering book that people made it out to be.

i thought it was super terrible, the only part i liked was where he was talking about being a deaf mute. its a bad story and i could hardly pull any thing worthwhile out of it. and using the phrase "what i though i'd do was" every paragraph had me ripping my eyes out after the first few chapters.

I wonder why Catcher in the Rye is the supposed favorite book of so many serial killers. Were they fine before they read the book?

It confirms their beliefs. For example, the portion of the book where Hayden is actually being a "catcher in the rye" he's trying to catch the kids and stop them before they lose any bit of innocence. This is the reason that Mark David Chapman killed Lennon, to save him before he was corrupted.
