So, Ladybutt is excited about our fireplace. Ladybutt also knows I'm a pyro and wanted "adult supervision" while we lit the first fire.

Since Dad is visiting we lit the first fire.

Good news, fireplace works and once the chimney is hot it draws fairly nicely. Also, hornbeam smells nice.

Bad news, AC is on, one of the smoke detectors doesn't work, and the chimney takes a bit of heat to start to draw properly.

We often use our fireplace in the winter. The first time I used it, I didn't prime the chimney properly (it was the first time I'd tried to light a fire in a 2 story house), and filled the entire first floor with smoke.

Ours takes a few minutes to get the chimney drawing, I can’t be bothered to hold a wad of lit newspaper up into it though.

Give the tinder a decent soak in naptha or mineral spirits, it flares up high enough and hot enough to get it going
