Just read China Mevvile's The Kraken.

I liked bits of it but honestly the "britishness" of it all was so bad I could not understand half of what was being said.

After having finished Germinal (fantastic book, gonna try and get a few other of Zola's novels now) I'm reading Far From The Maddening Crowd by Hardy. Which seems so far kind of rubbish but oh well.
