WTF Texas. GTFO.

Don't get all panicky. Nothing has happened yet.

And this type of behavior happens with frequency all over the country. This is a byproduct of the partisan American back-and-forth, us vs. them political mentality, not Texas' backasswardness.

What do you mean nothing has happened? The curriculum has already changed for the 2009-2010 year.

The text book changes have been voted on by the Texas State Board of Education already for the final versions.

Keep up old man.

Aside from containing textbooks, the students' e-readers also will offer Internet access.

Ideally, students also will be able to access homework assignments, attendance records and grades in real time, Mastorides said.

What they won't be able to do is download material, Just said.

"They're always going to be with you and you're always going to be in charge of it," Baydoun said. "There won't be any problem with like losing it or damaging it because it's like going to be your own Kindle."

This.

Also I left that last quote in there cause that kid is an idiot.

Exactly. Access to homework assignments and attendance and grades. That isn't a full web experience. They won't even have google. A "cloud" server at the school that teachers can push assignments to and when the student fires up the ereader, downloads it and then the reverse happens when the student has done the homework is very plausible. This does not involve porn, unless you are in the Human Sexual Behavior class taught by a 65yo hippy that finds bad 70's porn "educational".

Yes. Most classes required their own notebooks as well as textbooks. If I was in a class like art or music or gym, there were other "props" required.

Notebooks are not unique to a class. A 5 subject notebook easily takes care of that. Art supplies should remain in the art room. music supplies should remain in the band auditorium (aside from sheet music which can easily be kept in a folder) gym clothes should be kept in the gym locker.

While this is true, you can still have residual papers and such from other classes as you switch around. And like you said, if you only are in your locker for 10 seconds, that doesn't give you much time to clean.
Ever heard of a trapper keeper?

Notebooks ARE unique to my classes at least anyway. In English class, we had very strict rules regarding what notebooks to buy even getting to the point the teacher would ask places like Office Max to have Mrs. Johnson's supply section for her approved notebooks. No gym lockers, well locking anyway, no lockers for music instruments, some art supplies (like magazines to do clippings from, etc) are for the responsibility of the student.

And yes a trapper keeper would make random papers easier to organize.

No, it says they will have internet access and ideally they will have access to homework and grades, not that the only internet access they will have is homework and grades.

They do that with cell phones anyways already.

Yea, but cell phones are against the rules, so there is some defense against it, these however are not only well in line with the rules, but given to the students to use in class.

Which means they control access, which means they can control what is visible on the kindles.

Hmm, I stand corrected. I didn't think a Kindle had that ability.

When my dad went to high school, not everyone in his class had one, either. The school was built for 750 total students. His graduating class alone was over 500.

We had 1700 students, and only grades 7, 8, 9, and 10.

We had more than double that. Man you guys had some small schools :p

yeah your high schools are fucking massive.

doubt you had a wore teachers to student ratio though. Think ours was something like 35-40 per teacher..

What's really scary is this will be in most all text books country-wide.

bollocks. text book publishers write multiple versions to comply with varying curricula nationwide. in some instances they're going to modular text books that can be bound together with chosen sections included or excluded. if texas sets any records it could be because it's one of the most populous states that adopt the same textbooks state wide. a lot of other states set the curriculum and choose text books at the district level, not at the state level, which requires a lot of flexibility from publishers.
