About 98% of the time. You have to carefully proofread what you've scanned, because certain character combinations or punctuation sometimes confuse the programs. The one in Adobe Pro is pretty good. The one I used at the DOJ for a few years several years ago was awesome. It OCR'ed documents while functioning as a high speed scanner. Good stuff. It also cost about $10k, though.

Almost all of them will run from USB these days.

Oh, no. A flatbed will not work if you have to carry it into the library.
