WTF Talk About April Fools Stuff Here

OK, so I was gullible exactly *twice* with April Fool's crap this year.
One was a fellow FB'er posting up "baby #2" ultrasound pics and the other was another FB'er changing her marital status to "engaged"

Oh, and Damon's pregnancy. Still unsure about this one.

One of my FB friends announced he had cancer.

It took me a few minutes to catch on, it wasn't the 1st in my timezone yet. :<

After I said everyone on Facebook is using the pregnant thing for April Fools, you still fell for it?

Did you know gullible's not in the dictionary?

Certain things I consider out of bounds for pranks....cancer being one of them. (not for me personally, but because I know people who have lost others to cancer and to hear another friend get it would suck)

Did you know that, "i did not see your post and so I couldn't venture thru my April Fool's Day without your shared knowledge" isn't in the dictionary??

April Fool's UFO Report Sparks Panic
Town In Jordan Nearly Evacuates
JAMAL HALABY, Associated Press Writer

AMMAN, Jordan -- A Jordanian newspaper's April Fool's Day report chronicling a late-night visit by 10-foot-tall aliens in flying saucers sparked public panic and almost led to the town's emergency evacuation, officials said Monday.

The Al Ghad newspaper published a front-page article April 1 about the fake UFO landing near the desert town of Jafr, some 185 miles (300 kilometers) from the capital, Amman. The report said the UFOs lit up the whole town, interrupted communications and sent fearful residents streaming into the streets.

Jafr's mayor, Mohammed Mleihan, got caught up in the paper's prank and said he sent security authorities in search of the aliens.

"Students didn't go to school, their parents were frightened and I almost evacuated the town's 13,000 residents," Mleihan told The Associated Press. "People were scared that aliens would attack them."

A Jordanian security official, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to discuss security issues, said an emergency plan was almost enacted in Jafr.

Mleihan said he may sue the daily for its "big lie," but added that the paper had called to apologize for the inconvenience caused by the joke.

Al Ghad's managing editor, Moussa Barhoumeh, tried to defuse the situation, saying the report has been "blown out of proportion."

"We meant to entertain, not scare people," he said.

Orson Welles cause a similar uproar in 1938 with his infamous "The War of the Worlds" radio broadcast. The live drama's fake news reports about a Martian invasion sparked panic among listeners who thought its portrayal of the attack was true.

d*mnit, i was going to make the Orson Welles reference but the article beat me to it.

the craziest remake i've heard of so far was in Quito, Ecuador in 1949. The panic was so severe that several people died during rioting. There's a great radiolab episode about the War of The Worlds phenomenon here: http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/episodes/2008/03/07 They talk to the Blair Witch creators also, since it's related.
