So my son, speak

You don't need Quicktime and Java running resident in your services and the background. That was his point.

Disable qttask and the Java Update Manager.

or winzip for that matter. besides, what does winzip do that the windows native compressed folder feature can't do?

meh, my lack of caring really causes me no pain. I use this computer for email and internet and some smaller database work. My main machine is stripped clean but I ONLY use that for db work.

WinZip - works fine and always has at work I have no need for WinRaR
Quicktime - Needed for certain QC calls
Java - Needed for a companys website, dunno honestly what it was for
AIM - Inter office communication, no need for trillian although its installed.

WinZip - 7Zip handles more filetypes and is free. no stupid loader. if you're gonna run winzip, disable loader. http://www.7-zip.org
Quicktime - disable loader or get Quiktime alternative. http://www.codecguide.com/about_qt.htm
Java - disable loader. hopefully soon, MS will be able to put out their own jvm again. (or have they?)
AIM - just get something else. anything. AIM is just plain horrible

Either that, or just make sure that the adobe gama loader, acrobat loader, ati/nvidia loader, intel audio loader, netgear driver config app and your MS office loader is installed. that way you can take up the rest of the 512 of ram.
