You should see the clusterfuck that is the database design we have for one of our projects. In our system we are creating we have advisors (the companies) and funds (clients of advisors). There are 3 tables for advisors, with some advisors have a record in all 3, some 2, and some only 1. There are 2 tables for clients, but the kicker here is that one of the client tables is also one of the advisor tables mentioned before.

And apparently it's too much work to fixed this mess.

And the one responsible gets paid more than me.
