My install wouldn't get past 3.0.8. Then when I tried to install 3.0.8 myself, shit really hit the fan. Ended up having to just restore the DB and files from pre-install. Of course, I couldn't do that without the help from my host, so I spent 6 hours trying to fix it myself. Oops.

I got it working now on a test box here. I just have to do the 3.0.8 upgrade separately. Apparently, it has something to do with the styles we use here.

I did. Its just that the DB backup was too big and cpanel kept timing out on it.
