@fly is busy being the new PAPB these days and hasnt fixt the search feature so I started this thread, after a fruitless :)fly:) search for the old one.

Anyways
I need some book oriented recommendations.
The only "requirement" I have is that they be readily available in audio book format, as I listen to them during my commute.

What Ive read recently and enjoyed:
Enders Game (awesome)
The Dark Tower series (omfg)
The River of Doubt (Roosevelt was a badass)
Game of Thrones books (Jons gotta live, gotta live)
Alas Babylon (interesting, if naive)

Stuff I dont like:
Pure "fantasy" genre books - that shit gets boring
Shit about shiny vampires or fgt wizard children

Stuff I do like:
Westerns are good, if theres a good story
Sci-Fi
Anything really weird
Hardcore boob porn
@Dharma1521 @Nemesi

thx fgts

Vernor Vinge - A Fire Upon the Deep
- The Children of the Sky
^(Humans from an large spacefaring empire are marooned on a planet full of sentient dog packs in their Medieval era while attempting to escape a sentient god-machine virus. Think Game of Thrones meets Battlestar Galactica)

Ursula Leguin - The Dispossessed (Scientist from an Anarchist government-sorta invents faster than light travel and it's impact on the capitalist society of a nearby planet)

I'm about halfway through A Clash of Kings right now in the GoT books, enjoying it so far. Recently read "Ghost Rider" by Neil Peart, which is awesome - about him quitting Rush and doing a big motorcycle tour after the deaths of both his wife and daughter within a year.

Also trying to read a bunch of older classic stuff as well that I never read in high school. Walden, Grapes of Wrath, stuff like that.

If you like weird get Glamourama by Bret Easton Ellis.

It's about terrorist conspiracy perpetrated by fashion models. Massively fucked up shit like bombings described in great detail and such.

Or his short story collection, The Informers. The movie blew, book was awesome.

Sounds like Zoolander.

OK (CALM DOWN JAIME) ....

It read by Stephen Weber was FUCKING awesome.
The Shining was a good audiobook. I'm currently reading Doctor Sleep via ebook, so I can't speak to the audiobook quality.
I've heard great things about Year Zero narrated by John Hodgman.
Anything narrated by Simon Vance is amazing, he's read over 200 audiobooks, I'm specifically thinking of the Millennium Series if you are into that.
The Sisters Brother is a new Western, I've never read it but it's supposed to be amazing.
Geek Love is by far the strangest book that I've ever read and completely loved.

OMG, you may like The Miriam Black series by Chuck Wendig (not sure if this is in audiobook). Its about this FUCKED UP chick named Miriam. Wendig has a fucking sick sense of humor which is awesome. They are small books, the 3rd is coming out in December.

You read The Mongoliad trilogy?
It's around the 12th century (I think) and follows an order of knights that are descended from vikings that are trying to figure out a way to stop the Mongol Hordes

Written by a group of very very good authors.

its not on your list, but you should read World War Z. Its more a collection of short documentary kind of stories, but it totally works. It reads like a history book of awesome history.

Ive read it already. Great book, shitty movie.

Fun fact - the author, Max Brooks, is the son of Mel Brooks.

As for sci fi and shit Drool I kinda liked the Uglies series once I got into it - also Brent Weeks Night Angel Trilogy is awesome

I don't read much lately, no time, but my favorite book is still The Book Thief and I highly recommend it to everyone if you've never read it.
