So I am fairly interested in rock climbing now that I have done it and love it. I was wondering if any of you have done it and if so where a good place to get equipment would be. I would just as well buy the carabiner, ATC (or something else), harness, shoes, and whatever else I need rather than renting all the time; provided I stuck with it.

I would love to get into I think, but I'm afraid of heights. I don't know how to reconcile the two, despite the fact that it would take me to a lot of beautiful, solitary and meditative locations. :(

Well, while you are climbing, your range of vision is about 3 ft; the wall right in front of you and the next hold for your feet or hands.

I do it in a gym that is about 40ft high, so it isn't too bad.

I climb in boots, arc'teryx harness, tackle is made by french company.

It depends more on what kind of climbing or lack of therefore you do. I'd go to a local shop if I were you. It aint as cheap as soccer, but it's cheaper than ice hockey.
