GAY RELUBRICANTS Where are you now? lulz

unions had a major place in the past, now they should only be for unskilled workers. add to that every union here is so damn corrupt its amazing...

collective bargaining = good thing. the rest of it is dumb though and the rest of it is what causes all the problems... not the payroll.

basing positions, raises, etc. off of seniority instead of performance = retarded. it was actually dumb to work harder at UPS, the older guys would give you shit for trying to get your work done and making them look like sorry sacks of shit.

stopping a company from firing a shit employee no matter what = retarded. one chick was written up 17 times for no call no show and still retained her job after she won arbitration. she finally got canned after coming to work drunk as balls... thats what it took.

creates a serious "us vs them" attitude in the workplace, which makes it brutal.

the main benefits we received were actually driven by osha or the dol more than bargaining... but meh.

whats odd is fedex is nonunion, ups is union. fedex employees have all the same benefits and the new hires actually start out at more... they can spend a lot less on management to watch the union workers and try to get them to work, and instead they spend it on trying to get, train, and retain decent employees.

I've loathed unions as a rule for as long as I've been working, but a firefighter gave me a good reason for that to exist today.

They can't morally or ethically walk off the job in a dispute with management, and the same would be true for police officers.

but they do. blue flu

So I thought the union rights stripping was bad. I was further disheartened when it wasn't even for budget considerations. And then in the "budget" plan MI governor has declared that he can appoint anyone, including corporation heads, to replace elected officials if "in a financial crisis" by his own assumption, completely disregarding democracy at it's core. PA has this one trumped.

Regulatory Reform: Friction-free processes for government interaction with job creators are critical to maintain economic momentum and competitiveness. State government needs to be a partner with job creators. To address the length of time agencies take to act on permits and eliminate permit backlogs, PennDOT and DEP have begun auditing and assessing all of their permit processes to make them more responsive to the needs of job creators. In addition, the DCED secretary is empowered to expedite any permit or action pending in any agency where the creation of jobs may be impacted.

So those organizations like the EPA or DOT or any other government agency can be ignored by one official, the DCED secretary, who, incidentally, is a CEO to a coal company.

It's one thing to have a state that's shitty. You can just vote out the elected officials and vote someone in that is more to your liking that will perform services you wish to be performed. Except when new voting rules are in place that make that more difficult.

Also you could just get up and leave a state if you don't like what the elected officials are doing to your land. However that is going to be harder, too, as states make pacts with each other to block easy access to each other.

So far this session, Republican legislators have introduced more than a dozen bills that propose to create compacts, about three times as many as lawmakers introduced in each of the past two or three years. Among them are measures to allow participating states to build a border fence, regulate endangered species without federal interference and set up their own health-care programs.

Is Canada hiring?

oooh, that's gotta sting

Ronald Reagan: "Where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost."

...4) Certain business leaders may consider "big government" or socialism more of an immediate threat to their interests than communism. Are they allowing themselves to be deluded by their own propaganda to the effect that organized labor in this country is in favor of big government or the nationalization of industry?

Nothing could be further from the truth. The main function of American trade unions is collective bargaining. It is impossible to bargain collectively with the government. Unions, as well as employers, would vastly prefer to have even Government regulation of labor-management relations reduced to a minimum consistent with the protection of the public welfare...
- AFL-CIO President George Meany December 4, 1955

"... Meticulous attention should be paid to the special relationships and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the government. All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations ... The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for ... officials ... to bind the employer ... The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives ...

"Particularly, I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the functions of any organization of government employees. Upon employees in the federal service rests the obligation to serve the whole people ... This obligation is paramount ... A strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent ... to prevent or obstruct ... Government ... Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government ... is unthinkable and intolerable."
- Franklin D. Roosevelt

Basically, people are pissed if at the fed trying to control them. All those laws, as misguided as they are, aste for states rights... Save the elected one, that's borderline dictatorship.

fixd

I am pretty sure the thousands of people effected by tainted water from fracking in PA are thankful there are organizations like EPA fighting for them. It's the corporations that are not liking that.

the govt agencies don't even fight for our well being anymore though. they've all been bought by big business just like the rest of our govt.

So if Republicans are pro-life, how can they say Obama isn't an American citizen?

He was definitely, irrefutably conceived in Hawaii.

Personally I don't care were BHO was born because his mother was a U.S. citizen.

What does matter to me is that his family's political beliefs, going to the little red church and little red private school growing up. Barak's time at Harvard (The founders are rolling in their graves at what it has become.) and his time in the Black liberation theology church (Even Oprah found it disgusting).

When they are bargained and fought for and employees put into running those agencies by corporations, yes they are corporate entities.
