Don't you usually just use the Rockefeller tree?
not this year. hopefully I'll be skiing in beaver creek.
Don't you usually just use the Rockefeller tree?
Yep, roof of the Escort for us way back when, then several in the back of Subaru's and the Jeep.
Of course, NOW we'll use the truck
here they have recycle your tree weekend after xmas at the malls in town. drive it down to the mall, dump it and there's no charge. at least they used to. can't remember the last time I got a tree. thinking around 2002.
What kind of ridiculous bullshit is this? Even atheists love Christmas. It's just an awesome time of year.
This is one of those little things that makes me insanely happy to live where I do.
It really isn't. It's a commercialised corporate holiday that makes huge corporations salivate at the thought of feeding on poor peoples guilt. There's a reason families feel so much pressure around Christmas and also why the suicide rate is so high. I dislike the fakeness of Christmas cheer, the forced togetherness of people who otherwise wouldn't care about each other very much at all and I hate the waste that is generated by this 'Christian' (hah!) holiday. Tons and tons of useless plastic shit churned out in chinese factories by little children for people to enjoy for a millisecond and then discard in a selfish and thoughtless fashion to further pollute the world.
But other than that, it's FANTASTIC!
I hate forced commercial holidays basically. If someone doesn't care about me enough during the year, why should they feel the need to show fake care at Christmas? It's like valentines, as if a couple should need an excuse to be nice and generous to each other. Just one more day that overblown bigwigs get to make more money from. Fuck that.
*sigh*

And you can't decorate your house for Christmas without being a corporate shill?
You're telling me that people kill themselves because they can't afford Christmas gifts?
What incentive do I have to temporarily decorate my house? It's not like I'm having a party, which is the only reason I can think of to do that.
I say no tree at all, but Zac likes real trees, so....

You do realize this is not a commercial holiday.
And you do realize this holiday season didn't start with Christianity, right?
It IS a party. It is winter solstice. It is about getting together and celebrating each other, friends and family, through another solstice.
It was around long before corporations even existed and it will be around after.
You don't. But it doesn't have to be a commercialized holiday unless you want it to be.
