Don't you need bonjour for that connectionless crap? Or are you just talking about giving it an AIM screenname?

yeah.. aim screenname. bonjour sucks. Though, I wonder about command line messaging through it..

I just ping servers when I reboot them, until I get a reply. Generally speaking, within 30secs of the first reply after rebooting, I can use the server again.

That's what I do with my colo box if I reboot after kernel updates or whatever. You can get software to automate the pings, like WhatsUpGold or whatever.

I do that to, but I'll get busy doing something else and forget about it..

Why does bonjour suck? I've only used it once, for PCs that weren't connected to the internet, yet needed IM. Worked great...
