At least what Toto lacks in songwriting (and I'll agree that Africa is a piece of shit) they make up for in musicianship. Bobby Kimball has one of the best voices ever in rock, and Jeff Porcaro is easily one of the best drummers of all time.

Jimmy Buffet is the quintessential shitty "light entertainment for dead inside boomers" artist you're describing.
