Ontopic Random Computer-Electronics Thread

DDR3L RAM has gotten kinda cheap since the last time I looked at this. Was going to upgrade my laptop to 16Gb, but I'm not sure what the frequency speed should be. Does it make a difference? Other than opening the thing up, is there an easy way to find out the speed that is in there?

As best I know, it should be these https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/MSI-(Micro-Star)/ge70-2pe-apache-pro
It matters to the GIGGGAHURTZZZZZ krew, but in reality - no.

It's been years since I needed to shuck a harddrive. I didn't know WD actively tries to prevent people from doing this.

So dumb.

kapton tape over the pin works great on those. But yeah... super dick move of them to do that.

yeah., gpus are kinda trashing everything cpu these days. even ASCR gets most of its flops from the gpu's in it, not the cores.

64 real actual kickass x86 cores in a socket, holy living fuck.

Pretty sure that's meant to be a server processor though, not a HPC lots-of-flopz thing.
