Preclearing 10 disks at a time. SAS disks are nice... 200 MB/s solid.

Ghetto-ass setup to get all the disks running, and also keep the other ones up for transfer. I bought a bare backplane for 20 bucks off ebay and hooked it up. Working great so far.

Needs a box fan on it not to overheat.

Holy fuck those things are hot. 10k?

Are you rolling the old drives into the array after you copy everything off?

Old drives will age off after data gets copied off. Theyre good for cold storage and thats probably about it these days, theyre all sata 4s.

Ill probably sell off one of the older hotswap cases as a unit with 60TBs ready to go for someone just getting started.

7200. But theyre SAS, so they are meant to operate up to 90C and have a 1.2M hour lifetime. The oldest one I found had 50k hours on it, most around 30. Looks like i got a good deal

This is working great by the way. Preclear should be done this afternoon and I can start data transfer. I still have this ugly itch to make them all a ZFS array, but im resisting.
