I have TP-link router, and it's not bad. They tend to abandon stuff super quick though.

Spreadsheet time.
Buy someone's used case off craigslist, calculate power consumption cost over the next X years.
vs buy a low power Synology/QNAP/whatever box, calculate power consumption of that thing over the next X years.

The actual NAS will probably win in price once X gets long enough, but if it's like 5+ years, I'd just stick with the old Xeon.

I’m also considering a thunderbolt dock and Softraid and whack it up with my Mac Mini M1 Plex server.

And then moving Sonarr/Radarr/NzbGet onto it as well.

That's why I was following @Valve1138 suggestion. I didn't just want a random Google search, I wanted input based on requirements.
