" A recent report in the Annals of Internal Medicine indicated that relying on Fecal Occult Blood Testing, a method of checking for blood in the stool, is not very dependable. Less than five percent of cancers were detected using the in-office test. Dr. Michael Komar, in gastroenterology at Geisinger Medical Center, blames this poor reliability on the fact that polyps might not be bleeding at the time of testing.

"It’s a test I don’t think you can fully rely on," he said.

For this reason, Komar urges patients to undergo traditional colonoscopy, which can detect very small polyps before they have a chance to become cancerous. Komar said he has seen a growing acceptance on the part of patients to consider colorectal screening, but the push is now for people to rely more heavily on colonoscopy rather than other screening methods."

Why did I think of UF when I saw this in a local newspaper? :tard:
