They mustve been pretty big o_O I only ever saw the tiny lil ones tht were just like plastic bricks.
 
You know what no one has done. No one has ever tried to design a car as by anonymous collaborative design. An open source vehicle rather. Open source projects usually take forever to complete, and lack leadership but it's probably possible. At very least you could end up with an modular and standardized system of parts required to make a vehicle.

Depends, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration guidelines apply mostly to the commercial manufacture and importation of whole vehicles, not to 'hobby vehicles' and 'off-road' things.

Though some states you can only get a title and insurance if it meets certain safety guidelines.

You know that the reason you cant get real european vehicles in the US is mostly because of Mercedes lobbying congress in the '80s to set up these guidelines, not because of safety but because the grey market euro cars were eating into their profits >.>
