Ontopic Poo-litical Thrad

the house didn't think so when they passed them,
but also even if that's true, the Senate should be allowed to decide that for themselves instead of just Mitch saying so
You might be right, but on the other hand the house has proven its utter incompetence so its likely those bills arent worth looking at

the question/point wasn't whether we'd be better or worse off bringing those bills to Senate, it was about what we would/should be doing instead of additional impeachment inquiries, and my point is that with or without additional impeachment inquiries, they wouldn't be doing dick about shit (so the argument of what they might instead do with the time or money is pointless)

(to be clear I'm not saying additional impeachment inquiries are a good idea/aren't themselves pointless, just that the reason not to can't be based on what else they could be doing, because else isn't happening regardless)

This is one of those times I admire your (god damned!) persistence of thought:p. You're dead-on right. We have to, no lowering the fucking bar. Impeachment 3.0 would be fine with me, as long as they nail that prick.

By the stats (which I realize say what the author wants them too) we aren't really doing that bad with bill passage and debate. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/statistics

That being said, I've spent some time on the hill recently and I gotta say it's the most odd time I've ever spent there. Usually I spend a few days a year slogging around from house to senate side discussing the merits of one bill or another with our representatives. Either that or I'm looking for policy change, whatever. I go there, I talk to people, stuff gets done or doesn't. Blah.

What was different about last week was the open hostility. Usually when you go, it's not about partisanship at all. I talk about the merits of a bill, the reason constituents need whatever is in the bill or the reason some practice needs to be stopped. I talk about financial effects of things on our country. I NEVER discuss red or blue or snowflakes or anything like that. It's just not productive. And the staffers you meet with or the congressmen aren't interested in talking about it either. You get 10-15 minutes and you want to focus on what you are there to focus on. This year staffers openly made fun of the president in democratic offices. Congressmen expressed their disdain even if it was completely off topic. Someone brought up Trump and the soldiers suffering from traumatic brain injuries and how he thought it wasn't important and how much of an idiot he was for that.

In the republican offices the staffers would literally ask if this was a bipartisan thing or if it was just something those "pathetic, socialist, snowflakes" wanted. They would go off on tangents about how those people on the other side were trying to run this country into the ground and how they wouldn't support any bills that helped immigrants (they didn't even say illegal immigrants or aliens).

I'm telling you, it was the worst, most horrifying thing I've ever seen. All respect is gone and we are a country divided. We are a country divided by the talking heads in the media and our politicians. Newt Gingrich and his divisive language proposal has won. It's terrible and I'm disgusted and disheartened.

Usually doing time on the hill is exhausting for me. It is a ton of walking over hard and rough terrain in usually unpleasant weather, followed by desperate pleading for things, not getting enough water or food, and very long days. I have a chronic disease that makes all this pretty difficult. I do it because I care, and it usually takes me a few days to recover. My last hill day was last Tuesday the 11th and I'm just starting to get over it. It was soul crushing. I have no idea how to fix it, other than that we need to start being nicer to each other and actually listening to one another rather than name calling and being intolerant.

OH NO!

"...Turns out Soviet Union did create (a Manchurian Candidate) to influence American elections. The candidate came into his own in 2016. He helped fracture the Democratic Party, thereby electing Trump. He is being deployed again now to re-elect Trump. His name is Bernie Sanders...."
