You’d think the whole MAGA 2A crowd would be supporting his right to own a gun.
That's what I'm saying. People vote against their own interests as long as it hurts someone else they don't like.

To get a firearm ban in Canada you gotta be convicted of a violent crime, uttering threats, firearms charges or or some other "hey maybe giving this person a gun is a bad thing because they're a probability they might do something bad with it" type of thing - and it's something a judge has to specifically lay on an individual person following legal precedent.

It's weird saying that Canada has more progressive gun laws in some ways, but it's true...

In Canada do you have to go through a federal background check to own a firearm? If so, is it a crime if you are caught lying on the background check questionnaire? And is it a crime in Canada to be in possession of a firearm while under the influence of an illegal narcotic or if you are legally drunk?

Donald Trump is going to skip his second GOP primary debate. Instead of debating that night he will be in Michigan giving a speech to the striking UAW workers. The Wall Street Journal put out this op-ed asking why is he scared to debate. My questions would be why should he debate? What does he gain? I think Trump is an idiot as a person but from a political perspective it is a pretty smart move. He is something like 40 points ahead in the primary polls. Debating does not benefit his campaign at all.

yeah I actually hate what a smart move it is bc just by announcing that he's going to convince folks he gives a shit about workers regardless of whether he ever has or will act on that

Yeah. I mean it's literally how he won Michigan and PA in 2016. I'm actually curious to see what kind of speech he gives. In this election cycle I've yet to hear him give an actual policy speech or "this is what I'll do to help you" speech. It's all been boo hoo, they stole the election from me, witch hunt, me me me. That type of speech isn't going to win him any votes with the group he is going to be speaking to.

his last election cycle didn't have any coherent policy speeches either, though.

It was just hot garbage recycled from Tucker Carlson's anus, policy-centipede style.

if he does actually make it about them, I'm going to guess something vague and incoherent (though that goes without saying) about
- how important they are/they're heroes
- how he is actually just like them bc [lies conflating their work/union struggle to him trying to "fight Washington"]
- blaming "Washington" for him not doing anything for them last time but promising he will this time

but if it works (again) it risks inflicting him on all of us regardless of who does or doesn't deserve it
Just the fact he's a republican and he's willing to speak to a large group of union workers could turn some heads again in that voting block (unfortunately). Like Clinton, Biden doesn't seem to be too popular with the union folk.
