Pocket knife

I ended up buying this one. It is out of stock on the site and I found one store in Ohio that had one left, 10 minutes from my house. I called every store between here and Cleveland since I was driving up there, no luck. They listed stores in alphabetical order and the one near my home started with a V .

It is a sexy knife

Interesting. Sold you on the assisted opening eh?

I like it. It's basically a switchblade but legal in the state, no hassel. It was fairly well balanced also, I was surprised, until I took the belt clip off (doesn't everyone have a set of standard and metric allen wrenches at the foot of their bed?).

Switchblade laws are some of the most retarded (akin to gun laws). Most of the assisted opening knives are actually faster and more reliable than true switchblades.

(there is nothing near my bed, rifle on the wall next to it though)

While we're talking about knifes. Is there any folding knife out there that could replace the good old box cutter (http://72.4.160.82/gibson/media/v-vtk5.jpg)? And I don't want one of them folding things that have a box cutting blade on them (http://www.arizonatools.com/img/products/S/SPN901_TN.JPG).

It needs to stay sharp and/or be easily sharpened. It will be cutting boxes and the straps around them. I've noticed that card board is a killer for blades.
It must be exceedingly fast/easy to "deploy" as it will be used very often during the course of the day. Actually, it's more important that it is easy to fold back down, one handed. Any assisted opener will be quick to get out and ready to use.

A fixed blade in a sheath would be easiest but... it's moar funner with a folder ;)

Off the top of my head, there is one just like the one I bought with a smaller blade, might suit your needs. Just make sure it has the better steel. And I know you live way out yonder but it will probably be cheaper to find a store, I paid half of what is listed on the site.

There have to be online stores that sell them for cheaper too...

honestly, cardboard is gonna kill any knife you get. Husky makes a pretty good wallboard knife with replaceable blades. it would prolly be your best choice for that kind of work.

Would an actual folding box cutter work? Like this Kershaw?

I have seen these in Walmart with Anodized handles for under 20 bucks, they use carpet knife style blades and are very spiffy.

Yar , I have one like this:

Mines unbranded tho. Got it for like 10 bucks at the hardware store.

edit - the handle on mine is build better than the one in the pic above. That one looks like a piece of crap. Mines the same style & function.

Those are the exact kind to which I was referring. On the topic of the handle, the aluminum handled knives do indeed suck something awful, the blade component is heavier than the handle, making the 'easy open' functionality not so easy.
