Pirate Fest is a new event produced by Tybee Fest and slated for October 7-9. The event is marketed in outlying areas to include Atlanta, Augusta, Macon and Jacksonville.
The event coincides with Columbus Day weekend and is expected to draw a record crowd to Tybee Island for the first weekend in October.
“We wanted to produce a fun family event that would draw business to Tybee and attract visitors allowing them to enjoy Tybee Island in October”. Said Ross Howard, Pirate Fest, Publicity Committee.
Approximately 11 events are scheduled for the weekend with venues that include Café Loco, Memorial Park, The Pier and Pavilion and the Tybee Park of Seven Flags. Music, entertainment, and pirate related souvenirs will be available. Proceeds will go to the Tybee Tourism Bureau and City of Tybee Children’s Recreation Programs.
The weekend kicks off Friday, October 7, with an invasion at Café Loco where Pirates will take the key to the city from Mayor Walter Parker. On Saturday a parade will proceed to the Park of the Seven Flags to replace the flags (except the U.S. Flag) with the Jolly Roger.
