Ontopic Parenting v. acceptable entertainment

Lol, whats the reasoning on having a half hour of hard core porn every week? For the health of their citizens?

Besides xxx, what are the ratings?

Doesn't run for half an hour, it just comes on TV around that time. Normally ran for about 2 hours..

Wait, Carys is doing more parenting for her bf's kids than Liam is doing for his stepson?

Fuck you are a lame ass troll..

This is her decision to act this way. Her parenting those kids more than I parent my step son does not bother me one bit.

I was watching the movie "The American" (Great movie btw) the other day, and my son came and sat down with me and started watching. Even though people were being shot, and there was also a sex scene with boobies being shown, I never even thought of making him leave. From me constantly explaining to him every other time, he understands that the movie is just acting and the violence is fake.

I've often sat down and talked with my son about violence in movies compared to real life. I think as long as you are sure you child understands that you can't do that stuff in real life you're ok. I still shelter him from very graphic stuff. Too realistic, gore, etc. And I believe if you make sex taboo to a kid then you just make them want to know more about it. If you say it's just a part of life they won't focus on it as much. I'm not saying let you kids watch porn by any means but don't shelter your kid so much that they view sex as something dirty and secretive.

I'd rather my son have questions on sex and other stuff around me so I can answer them though sometimes awkwardly always truthful. Misinformation is way more dangerous than the truth on somethings.

My parents let me watch whatever I wanted and took me to see loads of films that were inappropriate for kids. All it did was turn me into a film geek. I think it's harmless, until they want you to shell out a bunch of money for film school in a few years.

So what do you do for a living?

As some of you know my boyfriends kids are 11 and 12yr old boys. Now when they come we're pretty  about what films we let them watch etc. but I just want to gauge opinions. I'm hard pushed to let them watch 15's but I think I might be being too harsh. When I was that age I remember watching tons of slasher films etc. but it's totally put me off horror for life and I don't want that to happen to them. As for books I let the 12yr old have one of my fantasy books and r*pe is mentioned in it and I had to explain what it was all about, the boyfriend was like 'uhhh is that an appropriate book?'. Far as I'm concerned any book is appropriate but that's because I was reading any kind of novel from a young age, it's no worse than turning on the news imo.

Is this a double standard and am I too uptight?

As a side note we went to see Meet the Little Fockers or whatever it's called and they kept saying dildo's and sex and stuff and the man was like 'omg this isn't right, this isn't right'. Made me lol.

YOU ARE NOT THEIR MOTHER. YOU ARE SIMPLY THEIR FATHER'S LAY.
YOU HAVE NO SAY IN ANYTHING REGARDING FILMS AND LITERATURE.
THAT IS BETWEEN THE PARENTS.
YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO ASSUME WHAT IS APPROPRIATE FOR THEM.
STAY OUT OF IT
