I you dont protect your trademark though with licenses then you lose it.

To be fair, if Notre Dame and other schools don't protect their logo when they find other schools impinging on it, they can have a harder time protecting it later if a corporation tried to use it.
I just think it's funny it took over 40 years.
The Seminoles and the Gators have been doing this with local highschools using their logos too.
Just more proof that college football really is about money and licensing.

citing Notre Dame's need to enforce its copyright protection of the logo. To be fair, if Notre Dame and other schools don't protect their logo when they find other schools impinging on it, they can have a harder time protecting it later if a corporation tried to use it.
