The harry potter/star trek crossover memes are going to be glorious

WTF with those transporters though. Parabolic dishes? Really? The teleport pad functions as a circuit with emitter and receiver pads. No way it works in this configuration.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Got started on ST:TNG now.

Considering that Geordie gets taken on virtually all away missions because he has his awesome eye-visor and can see down to the microscopic level as well as other stuff, why is he the only one we see with one? Even if others don't need one?

Because walking around with a headband on your face is hard.

you want an in universe answer? most likely because the federation has its own brand of luddism in that people are wary of making changes that they feel diminish their humanity. modifying genes and adding technological components is reserved for correcting disabilities rather than for convenience

the production answer is because the point was to show that in the future we're able to mitigate serious disabilities through advanced technology. that taking the effort to do so is valuable to both the individuals it helps and society as a whole

Yeah, but why isn't that tech put into their tricorders? (I'm assuming it isn't, or else why does Geordie have to go?)

the visor doesn't work the same as the tricorder and iirc he was the only with one for a while so there's probably a lot of experimental stuff going into that which could eventually make its way into the tricorders

the visor had magic properties depending on the needs of the plot
