New Manhattan Skyline: 2012.......Yes? No?

Wiki...

Problems loomed for Trump's casino resorts. In a May 28, 2004 Wall Street Journal article, Trump said the spectre of bankruptcy bothered him "from a psychological standpoint," but added, "it really wouldn't matter that much." A number of his bondholders disagreed. In the same article, "Meyer Marvald, a Florida retiree who says he owns about $44,000 of the bonds," said Trump "has the Sword of Damocles hanging over our heads." On October 21, 2004, Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts announced a restructuring of its debt. The plan called for Trump's individual ownership to be reduced from 56 percent to 27 percent, with bondholders receiving stock in exchange for surrendering part of the debt. Since then, Trump Hotels has been forced to seek voluntary bankruptcy protection to stay afloat. As a result of his company filing for Chapter 11 Protection, in May of 2005 Trump relinquished his CEO Position to Stephanie A. Plumpy.

I'm absolutely in love with NYC's skyline as it is; I think Chicago's and Miami's are the only two I find more attractive but this will certainly add to NY's appeal. Once again I'm reminded of the fact that I've yet to visit Ground Zero. :(

Here are some renderings of the Manhattan skyline as it's slated to appear upon completion in 2012. I'm curious what you think about them. It seems a lot of people love them, and just as many people hate them, though honestly I'm not sure why. Personally I think they look great, and are light years beyond the sheer fugliness that was the Twin Towers.

Horrible, fugly, sterile, minimalist rendering of the Freedom Tower's base (concrete with reinforcing steel and titanium overlay to protect from truck bombs):

Freedom Tower's base not looking quite as bad, with people, trees, and soothing water:

GREATEST LOBBY EVER, AMIRITE???? Freedom Tower lobby looking basic but somewhat groovy:

View of the escalators, which is a massive part of any architectural portfolio. Apparently.

Exterior daytime view of Freedom Tower:

Evening view of Freedom Tower:

Skyline view of the "Fab 4" new buildings:

A bit more distance on the skyline view:

Another angle from across the river:

Really groovy evening river shot:

Good daytime view of the entire WTC site (from left to right - Freedom Tower, 200 Greenwich, 175 Greenwich, 150 Greenwich):

Kick ass evening rendering of same site:

View of the new 200 Greenwich building:

Streetlevel rendering of 200 Greenwich from along Fulton street:

Exterior shot of 175 Greenwich from Church Street:

Exterior evening rendering of the lobby atrium of 175 Greenwich:

Curtain wall detail of 175 Greenwich:

Rendering of 175 Greenwich and 150 Greenwich from West Side Highway. 200 Greenwich can just be seen at the left, and Freedom Tower would be located just out of the shot next to that:

View of 175 Greenwich from Cortlandt Street, with 200 Greenwich in the background.

Montage of the rather nondescript 150 Greenwich:

WTF is up with that render?

I like the 200 Greenwich one the best.
Agreed. Make a big version of that instead.

Also, the name... the name. "Freedom Tower", it just sounds so... I dunno, retarded.

It's so french... like freedom toast and freedom fries.... I guess it's that whole Statue of Liberty thing.

I thought that design was from someone that has never drawn a building before and therefore didn't know the proper design it needed to be to withstand environmental forces, hieght considerations, and other factors into it.

I'm glad they are using modern technology that we've learned recently in the freedom tower's design.

that stingray stinger on the top of the building should kill any flying terrorists instantly
