Most that I have seen have 1GB of ram. Vista and XP choke on that little ram. Are they stripped down OS's?

You can easily install XP and have it run, well, on a 132mb footprint. If your just using it for the net and email, 1gb is fine w/ xp.

My mini wasn't. It was a full XP home OS. With the Mini, you can replace the RAM (to 2GB). Some netbooks have the RAM soldered in tho...

The Eee is $200 to $250. The Dell is $150 to $250 and is a bit stronger plastics and better keyboard and better internals.

And Dell goes on sale more.

I got mine from the Dell outlet (as a refurb). They start in the outlet around $170. If you don't like refurbs, they sell unused but returned netbooks as well.

The latest version of Ubuntu has a netbook flavor.

All that stuff is available for Heron and Ibex as well, it just takes adding a couple of repos, which is easy to do. The netbook remix is AWESOME.
