There are plenty out there for this price, but which one to choose?

Looking to buy this tomorrow in store. So I guess I should just ask which brands to go for, and which brands to avoid.

Yeah, the differences between Netbooks is so miniscule that's no reason to compare. Just buy one and be done with it.

After looking around last night online, I'm thinking it would be fare to expand that budget to around $350-$380.

But I also hear what you are saying. I'm just going to look for a good one with a 250gb HDD instead of 160GB HDD..

One question y'all might be able to help with. Are all netbooks expandable to 2GB RAM? I personally don't see why they all wouldn't be. But I did see stuff last night of people saying some were not.

Some/most are expandable, but some aren't. That's a good point. Make sure it has DIMM slots. And is a 250GB HD worth it? What the heck are you going to store on a NETBOOK? I'd get one with a 16GB SSD, if possible. I'm certain you own an external USB hard drive, if you REALLY needed it, right?

This netbook isn't for me. It's for my step-son Danny for Christmas.. I know he will like to store his music on it, and he will also like to do some minor video editing. I'm sure he'll also probably want some room for porn.

The $250gb ones don't seem all that much more expensive..

Thanks for clearing up the RAM question..

honestly bro, video editing on a netbook is going to be mind-numbingly frustrating imho. at that point I would search for a refurb ultralight. it'll work better as a laptop, almost as small and will come with a year long warranty

It's not normal video editing, just cutting and splicing. Nothing major with professional software. He just likes to put together films of his bmx tricks and stuff.

Anyway. It all came down to what the stores had left in stock. We ended up buying a Toshiba NB305. Seems decent enough. He'll love it.
