Man you really are a bitter guy aren't you. If there are any witchhunters on this board it's you Mr. Negative. "liberal" and "conservative" are nothing more than labels to describe an ideology. And by making the comment above you only show that you are no different/better than the people you are trying to criticize.
There is alot of American people who do not understand the meaning of the word "Liberal" or "Conservative", for a start, Conservatism is not an ideology, most certainly not modern day "New Right" conservatism. I have spoken to supposedly smart Americans who would tar me as "Conservative" or "Liberal" at the drop of a hat. This is incorrect.

I don't think of myself as either, but using the terms to describe someones partisan alignment just by, god forbid, their views on abortion is fantastical. In the words of Sean Hannity (not a great example, but the first I can remember of its misuse off the top of my head) to someone who supported eminent domain, "You're 'pure partisan' [whatever the christ that means]. You've shown yourself to be a liberal!"

If I'm a witchhunter, then so be it. It's for the greater good of understanding and not confusing terminology.

'Liberal' with a capital L means something completely different in the US than it does in the dictionary. There is no sane logic behind it, it just works that way. In general it's a term for socialism-lite. More and more groups that arent 'Conservative' kept falling under the label until it has nothing to do with liberty anymore. Black Power = Liberal, La Raza = Liberal, Welfare = Liberal, Gun Prohibition = Liberal, Universal Healthcare = Liberal, Federal Government = Liberal. They happen to have exactly ONE right they campaign for which is abortion, althugh it's not technically a right... But anyway that's why pro-choice = Liberal.

Conservatism had the same thing happen to it. Anything that isnt Liberal is Conservative but not always. The only real difference between the parties is that /sometimes/ conservatives vote their conscience, or for the people they represent. Usually the ones from a few select states that do not have a large amount of lobbying.

There is no confusing terminology here for anyone except you. We all understand exactly what it is we're talking about, if you took a moment to try and understand it instead of jumping in and telling us how we should do things. No one would mind explaining it, but I'm pretty sure none of us would be like to told how to do it.

I don't think you can relate the word Liberal to coming from the word Liberty.
Until you realize this and it's different forms thereof, please don't run off with confusing, incorrect American interpretation.

Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean it's right.

Yeah, you UK folks don't quite understand how 'liberal' and 'conservative' are used in the US these days. Completely disregard the classical definitions, because they do not apply
Isn't that what I was saying? :p

Liberalism is the political tradition that holds (?) Liberty as its primary value [from Britannica]. The classical definition zomg! Which I already contrasted to the modern American usage. Honestly I have no idea what you are trying to argue.
