Hawt Movies you are excited about

watched day for night (1973) yesterday. been on a bit of a truffaut binge.. i find such levity in his style, it just feels like a guy who loves movies making movies he loves. upbeat, not taking himself too seriously, and yet still maintaining a precision and depth from years of study. one of my favs.

also watched hitchcock's the lady vanishes (1938). it's good. it's fine. i think i expected...better.

Finally watched Django Unchained the other night. It could’ve been so much better. Sometimes, Tarantino movies are a little too Tarantinoeey for me. Hateful Eight was the same. 6.5/10 squibs

Reactions: definitely
watched the miles davis documentary from a few years back. surprisingly not great from a personal documentary pov, feel like it did nothing to build his character beyond a few stories of him being "cool"...but as for a timeline of his career and the major moments of his personal life that led to those changes in style and image over the years, it was informative enough. feel like it's only really good if you're already quite familiar with his work and want to fill in some the gaps on back story and personal life.

Watched Dolemite last night. Not the Eddie Murphy Netflix thing, the real one.

It’s so bad, but I couldn’t stop watching it. I read a little bit about Rudy Ray Moore and that movie and it turns out some critics have called it “the Citizen Cane of Blaxploitation”, and I have to agree.

I watched Doctor Sleep.
I haven't read the book yet and somehow managed not to hear much about the storyline so I had no idea what to expect.
I liked it. Held my interest well enough for the 2 1/2 run time.
Though since I didn't read the book I have no idea what I'm missing.
I won't ruin the plot or ending.

I watched Good Time.
Crime thriller by the Safdie brothers.
It's a study in extremely poor decision making. Not bad at all.

The Saint (2017). A Poundland Mission Impossible. Avoid.
One can only wonder what dirt the director had on Ian Oglivy to blackmail him into appearing in this pile of steaming excrement.

Watched Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Not really what I expected, but it was a solid addition to the Tarantino lineup. Good car-porn as well.
I just watched this movie.

As a huge Tarantino fan, I'm a bit partial to this movie. There are really good parts, but 60% of the movie was just not entertaining to me. Loved the twist at the end though.

You didn't think hateful eight was entertaining right through?

Nope. It had good moments but they were easily overshadowed by the poor acting (by ALL the lead characters, including Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh). It’s like they didn’t rehearse at all and QT just used first takes. A lot of the violence was just over the top, presumably in an effort to make it more exciting. Like smoke and mirrors but sub bang and blood spatter.

It could’ve been a LOT better.

Enough people like that though because someone felt the need to extend it and make a multiple-part mini series out of it.

Which I added to my Netflix queue and soon forgot about.
