This is a pretty interesting game. It combines, somehow, the charms of Sid Meier's Pirates with a Total War game.
At it's crux, it's a sort of action RPG. You'll fight 1st or 3rd person battles while commanding one or more followers for fortune and glory. You'll go on various missions for various lords in order to curry political favor. You'll get to create an army of loyal followers to follow your every whim. You can even back a usurper and command your own kingdom.
And this is before the mods, even.
What I can say is that I've been playing this shit for weeks, and I still haven't bothered to install that copy of Mass Effect that I happened upon at the same time. Give it a shot.
The next version is supposed to have multiplayer, which doesn't particularly entice me, but-- well, you know.. I hear the kids like it nowadays.
