Actually, original moonpies are covered in a banana flavored coating. I think its white chocolate with flavoring. The reason they're called moon pies is 1. they look like the moon 2. moonshine tastes like bananas

Edit : This is how it was told to me by one of my old roommates who was very much a good ole boy.

I knew vanilla didn't sound quite right!


I didn't know that moonshine tasted like bananas. Might have to try some.

Interesting. I do know for a fact that moonshine tastes like corn vodka though, in KY anyway.
