My ex-boyfriend's dad fell off a building, landed on his head and lived. He was severely retarded after that and had lots of pain, but was reasonably happy. I've lost contact with the family so I have no idea what has become of him.
Also, once I was in the ER and overheard some doctors talking about a case they had where a frat boy decided it would be a good idea to slide down the banister with a case of beer on his shoulder. He fell 4 stories and would have lived if it weren't for the beer injuries. The doctors were discussing how to approach the parents of this idiot to request rights to make him a poster child for responsible alcohol use in college.
